The Sip N Sew book is by far the neatest combination book I've come across in a long time. I love all the clever descriptions, delicious recipes and simple, yet elegant patterns for any and every level of sewing. Being a non-sewer, I wasn't sure if I could do it, but the easy to read pattern directions and detailed illustrations made it easy for me to follow-through with my projects.
I loved making the tortilla warmers! It's the perfect gift idea for any birthday or holiday. I made about four this past christmas and gave them as gifts along with a cool pepper salsa dish. It made me feel good that I didn't have to purchase all my gifts...these were made with love (in no time at all and I got to pick out some fun "fiesta fabric" as well).
There are lots of great gift ideas in this book, but I have to say my other favorites have to be the Wake-up wash mitts (these are adorable and easy to make), window mug mats and the cool truffle take out boxes. Make a few for your friends and they will love them!
The drinks...where do I begin? I love to have cool, frosty drinks in the summer and warm, comforting drinks in the winter.
If I had to pick my favorite "frosty drink" I would have to say the "choconut banana buster" satisfies my love for bananas, peanut butter and chocolate all at the same time. I have to mention all my other favorite frozen drinks too...Frosty Eggnog, Creamy Orange Dream and Pina Colada Slush!
Naming my favorite "hot drinks" in this book is even harder. I don't know where to start? The Cranapple Creek Wassail is the perfect holiday drink to have simmering in your kitchen over the holidays, and tastes delicious too! The hot custard mix...yummm! I've made batches of this for myself and given it to others as well. This is the perfect drink to sip while relaxin' after you've come in from the cold.
If you like Chai tea you will love this easy to make mix and be able to enjoy your own homemade chai tea without having to spend a ton of money each week at a coffee shop because this is the "real thing".
Overall, I really enjoyed the "themed" recipes and patterns that seemed to carry many traditions from the author's life. You could really feel the passion she has for cooking and sewing in this book and I look forward to seeing many more titles by this author...keep up the great work!
